You never really know what you have until it’s gone. We have a yellow lab named Shadow. To look at her now, one would never know she was the runt of the litter. She is a large dog with a beautiful creamy butter coat and as sweet as can be. I bought her a pink camo collar, which screams her personality. She doesn’t know a stranger. And, she hates trains. I’ve never heard such a pitiful wail every time the train goes by, which is more often than she likes.
Her favorite thing to do is run out the front door and visit all of her doggy friends on our street. She’s gone exactly ten minutes and then patiently waits on the front porch for one of us to let her back in. My son let her out last night while he was playing out in the front yard and she never came back home.
I was her momma-always protecting me from any little thing. She loved me and would plop her paw on my arm so I would hold her paw. I haven’t spent a lot of time with her in a while. School and writing have taken over all of my free time-when I’m not carting my son to baseball games/practices.
Addendum: Someone in our neighborhood decided she was a stray and took her to the local Pets For People. Thankfully, I called that evening and Shadow is now home.
